On behalf of the Adopt-A-Student Steering Committee I wish all of our supporters a very blessed Christmas. At this time of year, our already busy schedules get even more hectic. As we gather with family, friends and co-workers, decorate for the season, shop for gifts, sometimes the true meaning of Advent and Christmas gets lost among the commercial elements thrust upon us in so many ways. Each of us has blessings from God. None so great as the gift of Jesus’ birth in Bethlehem.
It is a time to celebrate and give thanks for God’s gifts to each of us. It is also a time to reflect on the fact there are many among us who are struggling and how we may share our blessings. The challenging economy is still in the news each day. While signs of recovery top the news one day, other economic indicators tell us we still have a long road ahead.
Our own indictor — the number of families applying for scholarships — is a sign that many continue to struggle to make ends meet. Knowing that, we have increased our efforts to look for new supporters and ways to increase funding to enable us to provide the opportunity for a Catholic education to as many students as possible. It is a challenge. Through the hard work of our volunteers and your generosity, we are changing lives as our Adopt-A-Student motto proclaims. Your support of the Adopt-A-Student Program offers that opportunity! Adopt-A-Student scholarships are funded 100% through donations. It may be direct gifts to the program or through a sponsorship of one of our events or even the interest from endowment funds created from donations in past years.
Thank you to all who have supported our efforts this past year. We look forward to the year ahead as we set our goals to assist more families with Adopt-A-Student scholarships. As you celebrate this holiday season and reflect on your blessings from God, remember there are others who will benefit greatly from your support. Make a gift to Adopt- A-Student and “Change A Life!”
Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!
Bob Pape, Chair
